HR Message – Amy White

Longevity at the workplace is not as common as it once was when it was not unusual to find employees who had been with the same employer for five, ten, even twenty years or more.  Now days, however, job hopping, or professional pivoting as it has become known, is on the rise.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median number of years an employee has been at his or her current job is 4.2 years, down slightly from 4.6 years in January 2014 and down significantly from 1996 when nearly half of workers in the United States had been at their employer for 10 years or more.

There are several false perceptions about longevity in a job.  Individuals can be viewed as stagnant in their career, too comfortable at their job, or even falling behind with advance technology or the working world. However, this is not truly the case. Employees do not have to job hop to advance their careers, grow as an employee, or love what they do.  This can all happen even when someone works at the same company for years.  Longevity can also demonstrate many positive qualities in an employee such as loyalty, dependability, growth, and motivation.

With the current climate in business right now and job hopping, or professional pivoting, on the rise, D&H United is fortunate that almost 25% of its total workforce has been with the company for 10 or more years, including 26 employees who have been with the company over 20 years.  Those employees include Sheila Hill (45 years), Lou Valles (44 years), Sid Jenkins (40 years), Frank Norman (39 years), Doug Sellers (38 years), Teresa East (37 years), John Reaves (35 years), Carla Williams (35 years), Michael Wilson (35 years), Leti Sambrano (33 years), Diane Isam (31 years), Ronnie Brooks (30 years), Rodolfo Martinez (29 years), Mark Kellar (28 years), Jose Ortiz (28 years), Bryan Newcomb (27 years), Henry Tubbs (26 years), Frank Alonzo (25 years), William Griffin (25 years), Matt Seever (24 years), Melvin Wallace (24 years), Mike Teaff (23 years), Margie Lara (22 years), Jarred Sarver (22 years), Carl Lee (21 years), and Jorge Perez (21 years).  Be sure to take a moment to congratulate each and every one of these individuals for a job well done!
