Construction Corner – Michael Ornelas
Hello everyone and welcome to this quarter’s edition of the Construction Corner. Time has gone so quickly since January when we become part of the D&H United family and there’s much to talk about. We have had numerous personnel changes, new hires, and an abundance of work which has kept us running strong and that includes new construction. In fact, we have enough work that we will keep busy way into 2023. We have completed many facets of work throughout Colorado and portions of Wyoming consisting of tank replacements, re-pipes, and ground-up new builds. Two unique jobs were marina installs at Dillon and Frisco reservoirs in the beautiful Colorado mountains that reach 9,111ft in elevation.
With an abundance of work, we struggled with how we were going to successfully complete each project and keep our customers satisfied waiting their turn. The D&H United team pitched the idea of separating our construction department into a large construction division and a light duty division. I must say we were not easily convinced but after much thought and discussion we decided to give it a go. By doing this, it revealed an abundance of work on the light duty side that needed individual attention and allowed us to improve with regular day-to-day and week-to-week urgent needs on our light construction side. We strategically did this by separating our construction team utilizing their individual characteristics and placing them where we felt they best fit each team. I am happy to say that instead of one successful department we now have two, thanks Manny and Sid!
Also, most of you may not know this but we have successfully combined two large duty construction teams in Colorado, Kubat Equipment and D&H United. I say combined, i.e., we moved the D&H team into the Kubat Galapago building which has given both of us strength in customer service, comradery, the ability to share tools, share projects, share new ideas, share personnel, creating two successful large duty construction teams operating out of Colorado.
I wanted to make special mention about some of our team members and their accomplishments.
- Travis Murphy passed his U1-ICC exam allowing him to be a certified Colorado installer. Travis has also volunteered to move to the light duty team making him valuable to both teams as a leader.
- Kaedan Tuccy also passed his U1-ICC after 1-year of employment with Kubat with zero prior fuel knowledge making him a valuable team leader.
- Taylor Delarosa has taken on larger construction roles with his growing experience making him the eldest experienced guy on the team.
- Andy Swierenga was promoted to head up the light duty team.
- Curtis Ducommun was also promoted as the large duty construction field manager.
- Lance Mowrer has taken three new inexperienced construction guys under his wing and is building a strong team completing challenging projects.
